Playspace is Instrument's living archive of in-progress experiments — a home for scrappy builds, tiny tools, and interactive sketches that explore new patterns, technologies, and creative directions.

1

Bitmapper

desktopImage

A tool for translating images into motif-driven halftones using shape-based dithering. It tiles a chosen motif: ellipses, lines, or your own SVGs, mapping brightness to how the motif scales and repeats, inviting studies in visual language shaped by hands-on iteration.

2

Typ-o-matic

DesktopAnimation

Typomatic is an experimental tool for generating looping type animations through pixel displacement. Each layer—typography, displacement, and output—is live and configurable, opening up a playground of generative motion and form through their interaction.

3

IMGShfflr

DesktopAnimation

A tool for rapid iterations of carousel animations, built to handle everything from a handful to a whole stack of assets. Feed it your images or videos and see them move through different animation styles. Test rhythms, build sequences, or stumble upon unexpected combinations as your images come to life.

4

Concentric

DesktopAnimation

This is an interactive 3D animation tool, originally created to produce a motion graphic celebrating the 20th-anniversary milestone for Instrument. It simplifies the complex task of creating 3D gallery animations from hundreds of images, turning it into a deeply customizable and expressive visual experience. The tool helps to choreograph, animate, and export 3D gallery scenes, all directly from the browser.

5

AudioVisualizer

DesktopInteractive

The Audio Visualizer is a real-time interactive experiment that uses audio as an input to trigger movements of the shapes on the screen. You can use the Instrument rings logo or upload your own.

6

Spirographer

DesktopMobile

A spirograph for the digital age. Built upon the simple joy of watching swirly lines create something hypnotic. Get wavey, watch it draw, and export your creation to use however and wherever you'd like.
